DPGU Reinforces Social Commitment Through Community Action

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], January 27: Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), established by the Dr D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, has reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility and value-based education through a series of impactful community initiatives. These activities included a three-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp, a clean water and public health awareness programme, and healthcare and community engagement initiatives conducted in Shelarwadi village.

As part of its outreach efforts, the University organised a “Clean Water, Healthy Life” awareness programme aimed at educating local communities on water hygiene, disease prevention, and sustainable health practices. Students actively engaged with residents of Shelarwadi, sharing scientific insights on the importance of safe drinking water and informed health behaviours in improving quality of life.

A key highlight of the initiative was a comprehensive field survey conducted by students, which involved house-to-house collection of drinking water samples across the village. These samples were subsequently analysed in laboratory settings to assess purity levels and identify potential contaminants. By combining fieldwork with scientific validation, the programme strengthened awareness around safe water consumption while providing students with hands-on experiential learning in public health and environmental science.

In parallel, the University conducted a three-day NSS camp at Ratangad, offering students an immersive experience that integrated education, nature, values, and real-world learning. The camp encouraged participants to develop ecological consciousness and social sensitivity while engaging in activities rooted in teamwork and community service.

During the camp, students received guidance from Mohan Waman, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Dnyaan Prasad Global University, who spoke on the importance of connecting with nature and nurturing environmental responsibility. The programme also featured an inspiring session by noted actor and artist Sayaji Shinde, who emphasised the link between knowledge and action, encouraging students to translate learning into meaningful societal contributions.

Further strengthening its community engagement, faculty members and students from DPGU launched a healthcare awareness programme in Shelarwadi village. The initiative focused on improving health awareness and access to basic healthcare knowledge among rural populations. The programme witnessed participation from over 120 villagers, including the village Sarpanch, reflecting strong community involvement and trust.

Commenting on the University’s approach, Somnath P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor of Dnyaan Prasad Global University, stated that the ultimate goal of education is to nurture responsible and aware citizens. He emphasised that while academic excellence remains important, meaningful engagement with society is equally central to the University’s mission. According to him, such initiatives instil empathy, social awareness, and civic responsibility among students, aligning with the institution’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) vision.

Through these initiatives, Dnyaan Prasad Global University continues to foster a higher education environment that balances academic rigour with social relevance.
